What we do
As the largest electricity distributor on Australia's east coast, we provide safe, reliable, and affordable energy to millions of homes and businesses every day.

Over the next decade, Ausgrid will move beyond the traditional role of only distributing electricity to transmitting it, storing it, and enabling vehicles to be charged with it. More than a network, we are a company driven by our purpose to make electricity accessible for all.

This strategic shift isn't just about keeping pace with technology; it's about leading the way, embracing developments in renewable energy, and adapting our infrastructure for the future.

  • Our network area

Our electricity network spans 22,275 square kilometres along Australia's east coast, in Sydney, the Central Coast, and the Hunter Valley.

  • Maintaining our network

Planned interruptions are necessary to replace aging equipment, conduct maintenance, and extend the network to connect new premises. They are also essential for ensuring safety and reliability.

    Our maintenance activities include
bushfire inspections to prevent potential hazards, tree trimming to minimise disruptions to power lines, prompt streetlight repairs to ensure public safety, strict safety checks to verify the integrity of our infrastructure, private and public pole inspections to maintain stability, timely power pole replacements to uphold the efficiency of our network and the removal of graffiti from our network assets.

  • Our response to emergencies
A crucial part of our work involves managing outages and assisting customers during potential emergencies, such as storms, floods, and bushfires

Our foremost priority is to ensure the safety of our employees and the community, including those reliant on life support systems.

We collaborate with the State Emergency Service (SES) and NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) to prepare for emergencies, reduce their impact on the network, ensure faster power restoration, and improve safety for both employees and the public.
  • Connections

Our connections services include new connections, modifications to existing connections, solar or embedded generation, subdivisions, embedded networks, permanently unmetered supply (PUMS) such as streetlights and traffic lights, disconnections, moving of poles or underground cables and EV charging.

We offer guidance and support throughout the process to ensure a seamless and efficient connection to the power grid.
