Following fire activity in the Hawkesbury area power supply has been interrupted to 425 customers in parts of Wisemans Ferry, Gunderman, Mangrove Creek, Lower Mangrove and Spencer.
Power will not be restored today and the outage is expected to last well into the weekend. Customers in the impacted areas are being advised to relocate and make alternative arrangements where possible.
For customers who rely on electric pumps for water there will be no power supply unless you have a generator. Multiple large trees have fallen and brought down powerlines across the area.
Ausgrid emergency crews have begun assessing the damage and more than 100 trees in danger of immediate collapse have been identified. Crews are working to remove these hazards before we can get in to safely begin repairs to the electricity network and this will take some time.
Due to the continuing fire activity across the region Ausgrid is again urging the public to be extra vigilant for fallen powerlines. Physical contact with, or even proximity to, live powerlines can cause an electric shock, which may result in serious injury or death and there often can be no warning the wires are live.
If you see fallen wires always assume they are live, never approach them and stay at least 8 metres away and call Ausgrid immediately on 13 13 88.
