The Board of Ausgrid Group today announced that Mr Marc England has been appointed as its incoming CEO, effective January 2023.
For the past six years, Mr England has been CEO of New Zealand’s publicly listed Genesis Energy. Prior to that he worked for AGL in Sydney in roles including as Group Head of Strategy and as Executive General Manager New Energy, as well as for British Gas in the UK.
The Chairman of Ausgrid, Dr Helen Nugent AC said: “The Ausgrid Board is delighted to announce Marc’s appointment. He brings a wealth of diverse experience in the energy sector, which will be particularly relevant as distribution in Australia transitions to a renewables future.
“His demonstrable leadership, combined with the breadth of his energy expertise will enable him to lead Ausgrid with confidence as the energy sector evolves. We look forward with excitement to his joining Ausgrid as CEO,” Dr Nugent said.

Mr England’s appointment follows an extensive global search undertaken by Heidrick & Struggles.
Mr England will succeed Mr Richard Gross, who will continue to lead Ausgrid until Mr England joins.
Dr Nugent acknowledged and thanked Richard for his significant contribution over the past six years.
“Richard has led Ausgrid with great distinction since the company transitioned to private ownership. He is recognized by the Board and the sector more broadly for his leadership and commitment to making energy more affordable for consumers, with an electricity distribution network that is more resilient to the impact of climate change.
